Position Summary
The role of the Advisor is to provide knowledgeable assistance to ensure students complete their degrees and achieve their educational goals.
Knowledgeable assistance is provided by coaching students on the development of degree completion plans, conducting degree audits of student progress toward degree completion, working with students to resolve academic and personal concerns, and acting as a liaison between departments on the students' behalf to ensure a seamless student experience.
SALARY SCHEDULE PLACEMENT: Range of $44,333 - $61,480 based upon the Alabama Community College System and Shelton State Community College Salary Schedule E3-3 to be determined by the applicant’s education and years of applicable experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities: Advise students about academic requirements and selection of courses Maintain systematic and frequent contact with advisees regarding registration, advising sessions, academic status, and other necessary college information Disseminate information on institutional policies and procedures Perform and interpret degree audits Monitor student registration activities and recommend solutions to academic difficulties Be a student advocate when appropriate Review and interpret placement and other standardized test scores, unofficial transcripts, and course prerequisites Maintain accurate records of interactions with students using Banner and other student tracking software Develop advising materials and presentations to support individual and group student sessions Stay abreast of changing institutional information including admissions requirements, new programs, courses changes, deadlines, important dates, tuition, updates in college-wide initiatives, transfer requirements, and state and federal mandates Participate in the planning, implementation and the evaluation of the advisement program’s goals and objectives Engage in professional development activities, including but not limited to, memberships in professional organizations, attendance at conferences, workshops, department training sessions, and stay current with information technology skills Participate in institutional student development and retention programs Demonstrate respect for all individuals Secondary Job Duties and Responsibilities: Demonstrate the highest standards of confidentiality, ethics, loyalty, honesty, and integrity Establish and maintain positive working relationships with other administrative, faculty and staff personnel Understand your role as an advocate for our students in the context of our mission, vision, values, and our policies and procedures Maintain professional expectations with regards to general office management, institutional processes, organizational skills, and demeanor (time-management, proofreading, independent correspondence, customer service, positive attitude, etc.
