Job Summary: A Postdoctoral Research Associate position available to a person with degrees and research interests in History, specifically in the history of Black student activism on college and university campuses, with the goal of transitioning the successful candidate into a tenure-track position in the College of Arts & Sciences at The University of Alabama.
Under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee, the Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.
D.
or other doctoral degree.

The College of Arts & Sciences at The University of Alabama and the Department of History seek applications for a Dean’s Postdoctoral Research Associate position.
The successful candidate will hold a terminal degree in History and demonstrate a strong record of academic achievement.
The Dean’s Postdoctoral Research Associate positions have been established through a major College initiative begun in 2019 to promote an inclusive scholarly environment in which outstanding scholars support the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the College.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate.
Additional qualifications based on assignment.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Applications are encouraged particularly from candidates whose research interests focus on Black student movements at southern colleges and universities, and ideally someone with experience working on campus projects related to the histories of slavery, segregation, and civil rights.
Joint appointments across departments are possible.
The minimum requirement at the time of the appointment is a Ph.
D.
in History or a closely related field.
Initial appointments are for one year, with renewal contingent upon demonstration of research productivity.
The Department of History will develop mentoring plans detailing benchmarks for possible transition of Postdoctoral Research Associates into tenure-track professorship positions.
Standard university hiring practices will govern any process of transitioning Postdoctoral Research Associates into tenure-track professor positions.
