Job Summary: The Adapted Athletics Assistant Coach is supports the Adapted Athletics Coach in overseeing all team practices (coaching and training), weight training, sporting events, team auditions, recruitment, tournaments and fundraising events.
Additional Department Summary: Reports directly to the Director of Adapted Athletics at The University of Alabama.
Assists the head coach in an assigned adapted sport setting in planning and executing daily practices, planning sessions, assisting with academic meetings, budgeting, event planning, nutrition, team travel and film review.
Attends all practices, training sessions, academic meetings, film sessions, and events with their respective team.
Supervises student workers and interns.
Assists in recruiting and retention of student athletes.
Represents the university in public outreach and awareness.
Works closely with sports medicine staff and sports performance staff on a daily basis.
This is a full-time position for one academic year period with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon satisfactory performance, departmental needs and funding availability.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of experience coaching and/or playing adapted athletic sport; OR Master's degree and two (2) years of experience coaching and/or playing adapted athletic sport.
Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of Paralympic sports and physical disabilities.
Ability to attend daily practices, training sessions, film sessions and academic meetings.
Ability to travel by bus or airplane for extended periods of time for wheelchair basketball competitions or recruiting.
Preferred Qualifications: Five (5) years Wheelchair Basketball Coaching or Playing Experience at the Collegiate or Paralympic level.
